Ignition Interlock Device requirements in Kansas City

Written by: Christopher Yotz

An Ignition Interlock Device is a type of breathalyzer machine attached to your vehicle that requires you to give a breath sample in order to start the vehicle and sometimes while driving.

In Missouri you may be required to have an Ignition Interlock Device attached to any vehicle you own or operate due to and administrative license action or as a requirement under a sentence given in the criminal case. The courts can require use of the device even for a first offense. However, the device is required for a minimum of 6 months after a second or subsequent offense. Failure to have the device installed could affect your ability to drive and could be used to claim a violation of your probation on the criminal case.

Using such a device can be expensive, embarrassing and very inconvenient. If you want the best chance of avoiding such issues you need to talk to an experienced DWI defense attorney. Contact attorney Chris Yotz today.
